Andrea and Eric live in Jay; about twenty minutes drive from Lake Placid, on the other side of the Whiteface Mountain which the locals also call "Cloud splitter". Why, this became clear to me quite soon. This mountain, venue of the Olympic ski runs in 1980, really holds on to the clouds, so that on one side it is completely other weather circumstances than on the other side. If it was still cloudy in Lake Placid and was hazy, beaming sunshine greeted us in Jay with light clouds and a pleasant 25º C. Andrea led us into the garden where we sat comfortably in the shade under a 150 year-old tree, and then she let the "girls" out. Their Dane Sunday comes from the kennel "van Rosherta" in Netherlands and is six years old in the meantime. The 2, 5-year-old Venus comes from Italy, and Voce who became 2 years old in April, is the only blue bitch from the litter of Striker and Raffles. She is extremely strong and full of substance and, a lot like her parents, is absolutely sweet and likes cuddling. For American shows she is too much substance and head however but Andrea does not want to show her, instead wants to use her for breeding. In combination with an American dog this is very promising for the future. Later Toni and Linda Russo with Veejay came over to meet us. The both also live in the state New York in Vermont, very close to the Canadian border. As  Voce`s brother Veejay whom we had called "Batman"  as a puppy because of his white badge on his chest  stood in front of me, I had the feeling to see his father Striker before me, so much the both are similar. Also from the temperament Veejay is like his father. While Voce rather sees the things, exactly like her mother Raffles, curiously and brisk, Veejay is the reserved, careful type.
Eric told us that in the area black bears and wolves lived, and that they would have to hold the dogs on the leash with the walks they take always. Moreover, there are still a lot of squirrels and Chip monks. While we sat there, Andrea suddenly jumped up, brought out a small red flag and ran to the place at which one of the Danes just did a poop. Immediately it was marked with a flag. Now the meaning of the "flags" in the garden which had struck us already before she did this became clear to us …
We spent a comfortable afternoon with each other, while the dogs run around in the garden. In the evening we arranged to meet for dinner in "The Hungry Trout", and the next day we wanted to have dinner at a Japanese restaurant.
